Sunbeams

Exeter

Today I took the train down to Exeter to meet a friend for lunch and a last shop before Christmas. We enjoyed a shared Mezze at Bill's Restaurant in Gandy Street and I succeeded in buying N's present at last so now it is all done!

There was a Christmas Market outside the Cathedral and we had a quick look, many cheapy stalls and a few food stalls. The sun was shining and it was warm after expecting severe gales and wintry showers! Back home before five and the ticket was reasonable too.

Exeter Cathedral originated in 1050 but was completed in 1400. It has suffered over the ages with the Dissolution of the Monastries, the English Civil War and then WWII, but today it was looking gleaming in the bright sunlight and after having had a recent clean. Roman baths have been discovered nearby which are apparently grander than those in Bath. There are plans that some of them will be unearthed for all to see.

Better LARGE.
