Muttley's Musings

Urban Spaceman

I was near the National Space Centre this evening after work and I thought about a dusky/ blue hour picture of the rocket tower, I was captivated by this sculpture entitled The Pioneer, depicting Ed White, the first American to conduct a Space Walk on 3rd June 1965. Eighteen months later together with Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee he was among the crew of Apollo 1 who were killed in a fire on the launch pad.

I thought it was a great sculpture and I like the reflection of it that I have captured in the puddle and the highlights on the sculpture from the floodlighting. There are a couple of altenative takes here and here
