Red tide rising!

The "red shirts" marched on the commercial district of Bangkok today and threw liters of human blood at the Prime Minister's House. Their objective is to dissolve the current government by creating as much disturbance as possible. All 8 lanes of Sukhumvit Rd - a major road in the commercial district - in both directions were taken over by a tide of vehicles carrying people wearing red. But the atmosphere was festive with dancing and cheering - even the policemen were smiling! I wandered around happily with my camera and even a pre-monsoon downpour didn't dampen the spirits of the demonstrators. More pics from the actual blood-pouring site (which I never got to) here by Reuters.

This protest has been going on for days now with an estimated 100,000 red shirts congregated at one point. Today is the first day the protests came near our house and as a consequence, the kids are stranded at school. Hopefully the whole thing will clear out in a couple of hours.

Other photos of the march at Astroman and Big Mango.
