Blue Roundhead

I'm still finding fungi despite the heavy frost over the last few days, which never thawed all day in parts of the nature reserve. I called in briefly this afternoon after a really enjoyable meeting of the Bucks Invertebrate Group (BIG), part of which was spent discussing how we should celebrate our 25th anniversary during 2015. I was pleased to find this fungus, Stropharia caerulea or Blue Roundhead, in perfect condition in its usual place - a scruffy corner of the reserve where rubbish and lots of hedge clippings were tipped in the past. It is one of my favourites and often brightens up an early winter walk in this part of the reserve.
