Meadow

I really really wanted to photograph a monarch, and although we've a few in the garden, they've been very high up and hard to see. Even with a long lens.

But down at Brownhill Creek there are a couple of wild flower meadows which attract a lot of butterflies.

So, here is the meadow and a Monarch in flight. Not the best picture of a Monarch in the world, but I thought it really captured the essence of the place.

Just a bit too hot for comfort, otherwise I would have stayed there longer.

The Monarch emigrated to South Australia in 1874 - not sure which boat it caught, or which port it came to, but it's been here ever since, and is a much loved addition to the butterfly population.
