Wind damage

It started raining last night and really didn't stop until almost midday. No way was there going to be a photo of the sunrise today. So I stayed home. Looked after S this morning; only marginally better than yesterday. By mid afternoon she was more comfortable, and I went for a run in a break in the rain.

On a central city street (Mayoral Drive, by the corner with Wellesley Street) I saw this broken umbrella. A victim of the strong winds we have had in Auckland in the last few days. Lying abandoned on the footpath; two metres away from the rubbish bin. Did it get blown out of the bin? Or pulled out by someone hoping it still worked? Or was it dropped here in exasperation by someone who had hoped to be kept a little bit dry with its aid?
