A Blip on the Reidar

Just for a moment there...

Dunfermline Athletic 1-1 BK Hacken
Uefa Cup
East End Park

First Division Scotland meets First Division Sweden. Bums on seats and 6,000 Pars fans hoping for the best, a minute into the game and we are off our seats dancing about and cheering. Jim Hamilton scores a header for the Pars after a deflection of the bar, what a start and we are buzzing. A rainbow appears to signal the good times and we're all smiles.

Down goes our keeper after smothering the ball against one of their forwards and we wait and wait. He's off injured and replaced by the inexperience 21 year old Murdoch off the bench. Bang down goes the skipper Thomson, he struggles on but is subbed come the start of the second half. The Swedes step up the pace and also the tackles. The referee steps up the warnings and now its getting inconsistent. He books our forward for banging the ground with his fist after missing an opportunity, blaming himself really but its worth a yellow card according to the ref. Hacken take out the same player five minutes later in the box and its not even worth a talking too, go figure. More of that as the second half continues.

And then it happens, misjudging the bounce of the ball our keeper watches it bounce over his head and to the feet of the Hacken forward. 1-1. Rookie mistake and one I'm sure he's kicking himself for tonight. To be fair the lad helps keep us in the game for the rest of the match. Hacken smell an opportunity and step up the pace and the our keeper makes some decent saves, one vital. The rest of the team tries but fails. We hit the woodwork and come agonisingly close at the very end to sneaking a win. Bamba plays well again and the new signing Harper is starting to get match fitness and some pace back.

So its the return leg at the end of the month that will make or break it. We have to score or we are out on away goals.

Tonight has been the best team performance I've seen this season so far lets hope it builds and gets better. Next up is the league game on Sunday against Livingston.
