Gillipaw's Journal

Museum of Transport, Glasgow

The Museum at Bunhouse Road closes its doors on Sunday 18 April, so we decided to take a trip down memory lane before the collection moves to its new home at the Riverside in Spring 2011. We spent many a wet weekend afternoon here when the boys were small.

So much to choose from for a favourite exhibit - in the end the Subway Station won, as I learned from one of the staff that this will not be recreated in the new venue. Twice daily trips in these very carriages on the circle from Buchanan Street to Hillhead when I was at Glasgow University, and the year the whole system was refurbished we decided to walk from Queen Street to Gilmorehill, partly to save money of course. (Fine timing - 36 minutes, to make it for the 9 am Moral Phil. lectures in one of the old quadrangle lecture theatres.) The "shuggle" experience and the smell can never be truly recreated. More information here.

Dad - you will be pleased I took several shots of the Triumph Herald and I hope it finds a new home beside the river.

Brother - especially for you, I have photographs of the Lagonda.

(A very late backblip last night of a lovely walk in Pollok Park yesterday afternoon before enjoying a super evening with the London branch of the Clan.)
