Bygone Idols

Walking by scenes carved on a building in the post WWII rush, I was struck by the prayerful attitude of the people in the friezes. The worship, the adulation, the adoration of ..... industry, mining, fishing, forestry and shipbuilding.

How much has changed. The fish they fished are almost gone, the trees they cut are no more, the ore they mined is mined out in some places.

But I respect their optimism, their certainty and the simplicity of these images.

I wonder how will our images look to others in 70 years?
