A Walk Through Deb's Life

Pharmacy Adventure

For the past three months my dad has been complaining that his pharmacist told him that his Medicare insurance does not cover diabetic testing supplies and yet they have this sign right next to the counter. I've listened to him go on and on about the sign, so on my visit to California I decided to go to the pharmacy to find out what the deal is. The pharmacist followed a long and winding trail to get to the bottom of it. It has to do with a separate deductible for diabetic supplies. He'll be 'covered' as soon as he meets the deductible.

The whole ordeal is silly really since he doesn't have diabetes but the doctor thought it would be a good idea to watch his sugar count due to some recent fluctuations. My dad is adamantly against testing his blood count three times a day or even once a day, but decided to go ahead and get the equipment as long as his doc had prescribed it. Then, when they told him it wasn't covered by his insurance, he got frustrated and then angry. He then wanted it badly. He obsessed over it. So now he's got it and I have a feeling he won't use it, but that's okay. At least he won't be obsessing over it any more.
