Ashley River, North Canterbury, New Zealand

The lower reaches of the Ashley River are braided and enters the Pacific Ocean at Pegasus Bay, north of Christchurch. It is home to the Wrybill, the riverbed being a significant breeding ground for this endangered bird.

It was a warm Autumn day to be down by the river, very quiet, just the sound of the water rippling over the stones, great place to have on our doorstep and so very different from my previous blips of the Kaiapoi River.
