Stafford Castle

Had an overload of history again today - yet another ruin.

We visited Stafford Castle, a Norman castle that seems to have had quite a hard time judging by how much is left. It was actually inhabited until 1949 but appears to have fallen into more disrepair since then than all the years since it was originally built in 1070.

The visitor centre and exhibition were very good. They have armour, chainmail and helmets to try on which was a good laugh, heaven knows how they even moved about in all that heavy gear let alone fought a battle.

It was all FREE aswell, what a pleasant surprise, there aren't many places where they don't want money from you thesedays.
