Bug Eyes

While I was admiring the shapes of last year's Queen Anne's Lace I noticed this amazing insect, resting quietly in the cool of the morning. It must have spent the winter tucked away in a sheltered spot, lying in stasis waiting for spring.

Nature Notes:

- The spring migration continues, it will reach its peak over the next couple of weeks

- Birds for today (mostly just heard or seen as flitting silhouettes - they were moving fast): warblers!!! Black-throated Green, Black-throated Blue, Blue-winged, Yellow-rumped, Brown Thrasher, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Northern Roughlegged Swallows, Chipping Sparrows and many, many, White-throated Sparrows

- Dozens of Blue Jays streaming overhead

- A bird of prey, probably a Merlin, flying fast past me, zigzagging through the trees after the birds

- I've noticed the local unmated pigeon population growing, are these birds that have been unsuccessful at raising young or are they the first of the baby birds all grown up? I love a mystery.
