Like something almost being said....

Those two lines from Larkin's "The Trees" (The trees are coming into leaf / Like something almost being said) went through my head this morning as I drove down to Cointraive to get the Sunday Papers. Here in the Glen the old birch woods take on a sort of purple haze just before the leaves fully emerge, not unlike heather just before it blooms. The exact intensity varies according to the light and the extent to which the foliage has come out , so what can be seen is a sort of hint or essence of colour rather than a colour itself , and the closer you look the less you see it ( it is a collective effect, not an individual one). But there was a touch of it this morning , and I hope a touch of it in this picture too.
