The MLC building, Wellington

Of Wellington's many splendid art deco buildings the former MLC building is one of my favourites. It's a very striking, tall wedge-shaped building on an imposing corner site. It was built in 1940 for the Mutual Life and Citizens Assurance Company an Australian-based insurance company.

This image doesn't show the true shape of the building or its height, but I was seduced by this composition framed by trolley bus wires.
