toward twilight's crescent Moon rising

Taken during a walk along the Beach at Williamstown (Victoria), Australia.

I'm not 100% sure as to the type of Bird, possibly a Skua. Nonetheless, the Bird seemed fixated on the cresent Moon which was rising into the twilight. I watched for well over 15 minutes and the Bird hardly moved its gaze until it was disturbed by a couple of Seagulls, intent on mischief. It was if the Bird, by looking at the Moon, knew something of an understanding? Maybe, the relationship between Moon and Tides and by this the rythmn of the Bird's life.
