Old Churches Week - Day 3 - Noorddijk

Day 3 of the week of old churches. The Stephanuskerk in Noorddijk is a Reformed Church, originally devoted to St. Stephen.

It was built around 1250 in romano-gothic style. In the 16th Century, a major renovation took place. The tower was added in 1648. Both church bells were stolen during World War 2 by the Germans. The oldest of the two bells, built in 1660, was found back after the war and re-installed. In 1996 a new second bell was installed; a gift from one of the residents of Noorddijk.

The organ inside the church was built in 1864. In 2006 the organ was renovated. The pulpit dates back to 1840. Nowadays, the church can be used as a location for weddings. I have attended a wedding in this church five years ago.

The week of old churches started here.
