Today was my friend B's hen do, so we started early at a cooking class set in a traditional hutong (alley) courtyard. We learned how to make gong bao ji ding (spicy diced chicken with peanut), gan bian si ji dou (green beans with chili and pork) and steamed aubergine with garlic, ginger and spring onion. Surprising how hungry we suddenly were at half past ten in the morning... We followed with a visit to the market (where I discovered mangosteen- yum), and then some green, white and oolong tea tasting. How terribly civilised.

It's now stupid o'clock, and having had a lovely dinner, a few cocktails, and not a few daft but entertaining hen tasks to complete (it got marginally less civilised), I am ready for my bed!
