Gushet 15 - Crossmyloof Mansions

Haven't done one of these for a while - other stuff to blip and not many lunchtime opportunities to go find more anyway!

Anyway, I've always found it funny that "Shawlands Cross" isn't exactly where everyone thinks it is: the building on the corner of Skirving Street and Kilmarnock road, just along a bit, is the only one inscribed as such.

Crossmyloof Mansions, as this gushet is marked, dates from about 1890s. There's some nice scrollwork around the windows on the Kilmarnock face. The Granary bar used to be called Samuel Dows, which caused some confusion with relatives of OH's when they came to visit our old house. Her aunt used to work in Samuel Dows, now known as The Granary, but we lived then two doors from Samuel Dows in Nithsdale Road. Cue much confusion about parking. It used to be a common name for pubs in Glasgow according to my dad, and there's still a Dow's in the city centre, near Queen Street station, possibly related - not sure of the history behind it.
