Meow!

This is the Gray Catbird, a common summer bird in much of eastern and central North America. He is slate gray with a little black cap on top of his head...the only eastern bird in this color, and his call really does sound like a cat, hence the name.

Today is Memorial Day in the USA, the day on which we remember those who have lost their lives in the service of their country and those who have been injured. We owe so much to them, and they and their families need our prayers. Please give thanks for all the young men and women who have honorably and unselfishly served their countries. On a personal note, I am grateful that our grandson has completed his four years in the Army Rangers and returned home after two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

It was a really nice morning, but by mid-afternoon a thunderstorm rolled through, leaving behind lots of humidity, huge puddles, and rivers filled almost to the top. Right after supper we had a repeat of the booming, rumbling downpour, but at the moment it has calmed down. I think the storms must have cut short a lot of Memorial Day picnics. Hope your Monday, holiday or not, has been a good one.
