Glastonbury Tor

Climbed the Tor in celebration of 9.9.99. Someone gave us a slice of watermelon.

The Tor appears to have been occupied through pre-history and remains of a Dark Age fort have been found there, dating from the Fifth Century. At the time the plains surrounding it would have been flooded, and the Tor's Celtic name was Ynys Wydryn (Isle of Glass). There was also an earlier Iron Age settlement, during the period 300-200 BC, at a spot named Ynys yr Afalon (The Isle of Avalon) by the Britons, clearly associating the site with the mythical Avalon of Arthurian legend.

Taken with a Pentax ME and a Tokina 20-35mm/f3.5 lens using Kodak Gold 200. Scan by Kodak.
