Life's building blocks

Loving stumbling upon the little block builders in the playroom, helping each other, way beyond the simplicity of the parallel playing relationship. Visited a new school called Smart Start, an Early Learning Center as pre-school where all Reuben's developmental needs can be met in the same place. As it stands, the LA school district will not pay for so we're calling in an advocate to help. There is simply nothing that compares to what services he could receive here and a walk through the brightly decorated corridors, past the gym where OT and PT services were taking place, is such a far cry from what we've seen to date. The outdoor space has every conceivable activity for kids with sensory issues, sand pits, trampolines, rocking horses, even a bouncy house. A 5 day week for 7 hours per day, it's certainly full, but Reuben most certainly is happier when his life is structured. I was presented with a pack of the day, each activity on every one of the days is documented in photos and words for the parents to review and keep. Can you imagine what a collection of visual memories we'll have to take away? Tomorrow I'll work through his Individual Education Plan which is close to 100 pages in length, and try to build our case.

Marvelling today at Callum's language development, "1, 2, 3" and mini sentences, "I want book" in words and signs. It's beautiful to watch and yet impossible to keep up with the pace at which he races through the stages.
