Survivor.

Many of us spend a lot of time in our gardens trying to cajole plants into sprouting. We take care of them once they have rooted and then we protect them against the marauding armies of insects, fungi and other plants that threaten their territory. We go to great lengths to keep them watered, pruned and nourished often spending a small fortune along the way. Sometimes (particularly if you are as bad at gardening it as I am) they still fail to thrive. Sometimes they even die.

... and yet one of the most beautiful plants imaginable can grow from a small crack in a dry stane dyke. That really is something.
