Old courtyard [Croatia, Day 4]

Further exploring around Makarska took up most of the day. We'd spotted a few disco/nightclubs on the tourist maps and in the Rough Guide, but hadn't managed to pin them down so far. We thought even if they were only open on weekend nights we would have heard them in action, but we'd had no luck actually finding them as yet. It took a good bit of walking from one end of town to the other, but we finally found Deep and Grota, the principal ones on the list, and both of which are situated in caves in the rocks at different points around the seafront. It turned out that the season had ended a week or so ago, and that neither venue is open now. Even with this disappointing outcome, our search was actually highly enjoyable and added to our overall knowledge of the town's layout. As well as that, our perambulations were broken with occasional pit stops for refreshments along the way, which added to the enjoyment.

We'd treated ourselves to a lie-on in the morning, for the first time not needing to up and about for a specific time. We only went out around 11.30 or so, and were back close enough to our home base just nicely in time for a leisurely beer at a spot with a nice view of the spectacular sunset. Yesterday's weather changeability continued today, with wind and cloud, but also with fine warm sunny spells thrown in. We even had a few spots of rain at one stage, and there was a very short thundery shower while we had our evening meal. It's now dried up again, and we're hoping for pleasant weather for tomorrow's boat trip.
