Blot On The Landsape Part 1

Gladstone, located in Central Queensland in Australia, is an industrial landscape. I'm going to be as nice and polite, as I can about it. However there is no mistaking the huge amount of industry in and around it.

Inevitably I'm going to have to photograph the industry as there is very little else here - apologies to any Gladstone residents, but the place is a bit of a hole (that is being polite.)

Todays blip is of the Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) refinery, it produces 600,000 tonnes of alumina per year, from 9 million tonnes of bauxite and supplies about 7% of the worlds best smelter grade alumina. It gets through 800,000 tonnes of caustic soda in the process.

Boy is it ugly!
