My String Collection

Ok so paella by the lake wasn't quite as I thought it would be. For a start we were rained off, which is ridiculous when you realise I am in Andalucia, but there you have it. The huge paella was relocated to the farm where it was assembled in a pan the size of a dustbin lid and placed on a gas ring on the ground. In the shadows lurked the drooling horses, pigs, at least 10 cats and a small dog all wanting to have a go and stir the pot. And yet none of these highlights warranted a blip.

We have instead a prime example of the Spanish mans skill with a ball of string. These guys absolutely love string here, they tie up whole houses with string. I have even seen a car emerging from the equivalent of the MOT center victorious in the name of string as an essential component tied to the car has passed its test. Seriously it is the foundation of all that is Spanish, forget the sombrero, forget the flamenco, it's all about string.

So here we have the string two-tone sun chair with optional jettison foot rest, also in string. Note the irregular weave and the ample use of knots suggesting that the string was in fact not from a ball but more likely random pickings saved from roadsides and market outings.

I can't pretend to be above wanting to own this chair; I would happily take it home because it was astonishingly comfortable. And what have the English done with string? One word; vests!
