Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede Rodeo

I can't think of anywhere more authentically American to be than Cody, Wyoming on July 4th weekend.

After a 3 hour scenic drive through the Big Horn mountains which took us to an elevation of 8500 feet (Ben Nevis is around 4500 ft) we arrived in the wild western town of Cody. They pull out all the stops to celebrate Independence Day. Parades, fireworks and their nightly rodeo suddenly becomes an even bigger deal.

The rodeo was amazing. Very extravagant, very patriotic, very American. We would have almost been in fits of laughter at times if it weren't for everyone around us taking it so seriously. I'm very glad we had the chance to experience it.

We spent a couple of hours at it before being succumbed to the cold. We're a bit higher up here so the temperature isn't as warm as what we have been used to.

We'll stick around for tomorrow mornings parade before making the short journey into the Yellowstone National Park. We're camping there for 3 nights, followed by another nights camping after that. We'll be out of range of internet for the whole of that time, but we'll be back at the other side with hopefully some fantastic blips.

Happy July 4th everyone.
