A Working Port

We have been enjoying all the amenities a big city has to offer during our time in Long Beach, especially the restaurants as some of my other photos have shown. What is easy to forget is that Long Beach is the second largest port on the west coast. Over $100 billion in product moves through the port's 10 piers each year.

Our hotel for the past three days has been adjacent to this amazing area. By looking sideways from our 10th floor window, I could see this scene. The cranes work non-stop plucking containers off the dock and locating them precisely on deck of the ship. Trucks travel the highway constantly, bringing containers to this and other ships waiting to carry American goods and produce to waiting markets overseas.
