Rail and Sleeper*

The train I had hope to photograph yesterday at 10:20, which failed to appear, came through at 10:20 today. The only problem -- I was still in the kitchen.

Having just missed out on the train at 10:35 yesterday, my plan was to be in position to capture it today. But it failed to show.

It's a pity Britain's colonial rule didn't last until 1880, at least America would have have a decent railway system that runs to a regular timetable. :-) Maybe it is just a problem in The Deep South, as if we haven't got enough of them. ;-)

So my attention turned to the track and the juxtaposition of steel, stone and timber, not forgetting rust.

It is a little disconcerting to see so many spikes missing from the plate that holds the rail to the sleeper. I guess it is a further sign of the cutbacks in these hard times. ;-)

A B&W version converted in Silver Efex Pro can be seen here.

*Sleeper is the English word for what Americans call ties. That probably accounts for why so many men here wear open-neck shirts.

Have a good weekend, y'all!
