Main Street Bridge

After watching Uruguay v Germany this afternoon, it was time to head out and get a photograph for today.

The plan was to have dinner at the Cinquo de Mayo Mexican restaurant and the walk from the car to the restaurant was sure to provide some photo opportunities. I was hoping for some candid street photographs but my attempts did not quite come off.

Approaching the Main Street Bridge, the siren sounded, indicating that it was about to be raised to let a boat through. I fired this shot as the bridge was raised to its maximum height.

And the blue of the bridge and sky was in keeping with Uruguay, also known as La Celeste. From their first game against France a month ago, I took to Uruguay and their brand of football. In Diego Forlan, they had the player of the tournament. How Manchester United must rue letting him go.

I would have liked Uruguay to have beaten Germany today but it was not to be. And I still think had they not been deprived of key players through injury and suspensions, they would have been meeting Spain tomorrow in the final instead of Holland. But football is full of ifs, maybes and what might have been. The Uruguay team did their country proud and their football has been a joy to watch.
