Day to remember

There are some days in your life that will stay with you for ever - and today was one of them.

My wife and I were bursting with pride to see our middle child - son John - graduate from Cardiff University.

After all the usual ups and downs of childhood, and the seemingly never-ending road through school and university, it was such a joy to see him emerge the other end in some style - he gained a first in mechanical engineering and already has an excellent job lined up.

It was a memorable day. We travelled down by train with John and his girlfriend Amy, we were with him as he walked proudly in his gown and mortar board through the city centre to St David's Hall, then enjoyed a very special ceremony.

Afterwards we celebrated with a delicious meal at an Italian restaurant in Cardiff Bay - the sun shining gloriously as we toasted his future with glasses of lovely, chilled white wine.

John is in the middle of the blip pic, with his engineering pals Tom and Luke. In case you wondered, a clerical error meant Tom wore the wrong gown. Oops!
