The moment the tennis ball hits the racket.

Sophie recreates the moment the tennis ball hits the racket.

Like every year in Ireland, the kids all go to tennis lessons up the town to keep them entertained. With the rain that continues unabated, it breaks up the day for us all: the kids, because it keeps them active and they meet other kids, and the adults because it gets them out of the house for an hour or so.

When they return, they're keen to show us what they learned. Mainly this involves me fetching tennis balls from out of next-doors' garden, but occasionally they learn a new trick. This was not one of them however. I asked Sophie to show me what they learned today. "Oh, a great trick" she says, "look". Getting the camera ready to record the fledgling skills of the next Martina Hingis, she instead tries to smash her face through the racket. The camera clicks, the shutter opens and the moment is captured forever.
