Rapunzel

Rapunzel wouldn't need very long hair to be rescued from the remains of this Round Tower, off the Mill Road, near Drogheda. Sadly, while there are still lots of these and similar old buildings around, they're neglected and have been dismantled over the years to build walls with the stone.

I was tootling around backroads near Drogheda when I spotted this from the car at the far side of a wheat field. No train trip into Dublin this week as I was working until 0300 and didn't go to bed until after 0415. Didn't surface either until 1230, so lazy day today.

A couple of pints later in Clogherhead with my dad and family will put the day to rest.

P.S. For those unfamiliar with Round Towers, they were normally three times the height of these remains with a conical roof. The door, as you can see it now, would have at least six feet off the ground and a ladder would have been pulled inside at time of attack.
