Falling and laughing

It felt like autumn this morning - cold and damp, rather than just the plain old warm and damp that we usually get in summer. This gate is the other side of this, which was taken a couple of weeks ago. There was a lot of leaping over mud and puddles.

I stayed up late last night reading Falling and Laughing, Grace Maxwell's account of what happened when her partner Edwyn Collins had a stroke at the age of just 45. I always loved those Scottish bands from the 1980s - Orange Juice, Aztec Camera etc - which somehow made it harder to imagine such a talented songwriter as Collins losing the ability to speak, read and write, to say nothing of walking or playing the guitar. I'm only halfway through the book so far, but already I reckon Grace Maxwell deserves a medal for the fight she put up to get him the right treatment.
