The Shot Not Taken

Sometimes you can know too much about photography. This knowledge can limit the type of photos you are liable to take. This is a prime example. It was almost dark, I had no tripod, and I was using my 70-200 telephoto. A recipe for disaster according to the "photo rules" drummed into my head since starting photography 35 years ago.

I took it anyway.

I cranked up the ISO. I braced my camera and lens on a nearby railing. I set my self time for a two second delay. I breathed low and slow and squeeeezed the shutter release.

The result, while not tack sharp, is adequate and something I would not have if I had followed the rules.
