Bumblings of a bee

Memorial

Situated at one end of the town centre, the memorial says:

OUR GLORIOUS DEAD

This monument
was erected in Grateful
Memory of the men of
Cannock
who died in the defence
of their Country
in the Great War
1914-1918
Their Honour Our Gratitude

Having been brought up by grandparents who lived through two World Wars, and with a father and uncle who served in World War II, I cannot fail to stop and look at such tributes, despite my lack of any religious faith.

*** ps. Atop the monument are a soldier and a sailor - I think there were airmen in WWI, but I suppose they would have been quite unusual. ***
