The Glasgow Show - Day 2

And what a difference a day makes!

After the terrible weather conditions on Day 1, today was a total contrast and we even had blue sky and sunshine for part of the day. The weather also had an impact on attendance which was much higher today.

I took a lot of pictures in the couple of hours or so that I was there. Quite a lot of the 'Rockin? Horse Stunt Show' which was an amazing equestrian spectacle. Then I took a load of pictures of the 'Bolddog Ling' freestyle motocross team with some more of the heart stopping stunts similar to those in yesterday?s shot. I was very tempted to feature one of them again.

However I eventually decided to go for this one of one of the Golden Lions team. One of the reasons for this was to make up for the disappointment yesterday when the poor weather meant they had to call off the parachute jump on safety grounds.

The Golden Lions are regarded as one of the top parachute display teams in the world. They freefall, trailing smoke, from 10,000 ft at speeds up to 120 mph. Displaying exceptional skill and bravery they perform 'canopy formations' and 'swoop' landings. They accurately landed in the centre of the comparatively small arena in the middle of Glasgow Green. They consist of a team of up to 12 Regular Soldiers (5 of them jumped today) from the recently formed Royal Regiment of Scotland. These soldiers must volunteer to attend a rigorous selection process followed by 12 months of training in Freefall, Accuracy and Display Co-ordination.

Nice to be able to catch one of them against a completely blue section of sky (a very rare occurrence recently!).
