Peace

Another trip out today on this all-action holiday. We headed for our beloved capital city - for the first time risking the Megabus to get us there (at £10 per head return).

The whole day went as smoothly as clockwork, with the bus setting the standard for the day by arriving exactly on time in London.

We walked along the Embankment to the City, meeting our eldest son for lunch in delightful gardens at the Middle Temple inn of court.

Our son has a job in the Strand and we rarely get to see him these days, so any meeting is a very special treat.

Afterwards we went to the National Portrait Gallery, where I wanted to see the exhibition of work by Camille Silvy - a 19th century French photographer who based himself in London.

One of my passions is archive photography and the Silvy exhibition had its high spots, although it could have been bigger, in my opinion.

The gallery itself is a delight. At the moment there are interesting photographs of Olympic hopefuls and other individuals involved in preparing the 2012 Games.

Entries for the National Portrait Award were also fascinating. Unfortunately, too many other people thought so, too, and it became something of a scrum.

We watched the world go by in Trafalgar Square and outside Parliament, where I took the shot (above) of the peace demonstration.

Then it was time to head back. After watching the film Alice in Wonderland(!) on my iPhone, were were impressed when our bus arrived into Gloucester 20 minutes early. You can't say fairer than that!
