Holy Cows

Today was very eventful! We woke up early and walked from the hotel in Thamel to the hospital in Thapithali. Instead of following the major road that the taxis all use (where there are some very nice looking palaces and government buildings) we took the scenic route through the neighborhoods. We saw a lot of very interesting small temples, some of which we saw already last Saturday.

On the way down, we stopped by Basantapur Durbar Square. This square was filled with gorgeous temples of all different architectures. Apparently there is also a living goddess living there, but we didn't get to see her today. Shown here are two cows that are eating some food they've been given by the locals. The pigeons were also being fed (I'm told it's good Karma). In this square, there's also a temple built entirely from one tree.

After work we went to Patan-Durbar Square and looked around. The place was amazingly beautiful. It's just so incredible how wonderful these temples look.

I'm feeling a lot more comfortable in Kathmandu now that I've had some time to adjust to the food and the general chaos of the streets. Everyone is so so nice here, and I just can't get over it!
