A week at Rhiw Goch: Earl of Merioneth at Cei Mawr

Today's view out of the "office window". Double Fairlie - Earl of Merioneth - with 12:15 Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog crossing the 60 foot high stone embankment; Cei Mawr.

The Earl of Merioneth was built in the railway workshops, entering service on 1979. Built with a boiler from Hunslet, it was initially oil fired, and had large water tanks to undertake the journey from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog without having to take water. In 2007 it was converted for coal firing.
