The Lozarithm Lens

Hampsley Hollow

Finally, I managed to break out of the cottage, back onto the mean streets. Seven years ago today I took this picture in Hampsley Hollow, just outside Calne, so I decided to return to the same spot this afternoon. This time, I pointed the camera in a slightly different direction to capture the view behind this hawthorn.

As I was walking back I was surprised by a hare leaping towards me. It stopped abruptly and for a moment was in profile right in front of me, the sun turning its fur golden, and its large amber eye meeting mine. Then, as I raised the camera to my eye, it was gone as instantly as it had appeared, leaving no trace. I got one shot of it running away (see Extra).
