They've emerged!

We got a text message today saying that Jacks school was cancelled due to Hurricane Earl. Jack was pretty sad, he was looking forward to going to school today!

His sadness didn't last long though....he came running into the kitchen, hopping up and down all excited!! "Momma!!! The butterflies are here, the butterflies are here!!!!" He grabbed my hand and brought me into the playroom where we've been keeping his butterfly garden. They've been in the crysalis (cocoon) stage for about a week, and Jack checks on them a few times a day.

So far, 3 of the 4 'painted lady' butterflies have emerged, the last one looks like it will be ready sometime today! We added sugar water and an orange slice for them to eat, and now we can watch them for a couple of days before releasing them outside!

This shot isn't the greatest, because Jack is being seen through the netting of the butterfly house, but I loved the look on his face checking out his new friends!
