Simple Life, Simple Sewing

One of the girls in my dorm needed a pair of pants hemmed so we stopped at this street mender. The woman had a table covered by a large umbrella, sewing machine, and drawer of essentials set up right on the sidewalk. Most likely she lived on the second floor of the apartment behind where she set up. My friend showed her the amount she wanted taken from the bottom of the pants, then the seamstress cut them off, matched the thread, and sewed them right in front of us. She was sewing with a musty green Singer that could have been found in the back of my grandmother's closet. 10 minutes later, we were on our way.
