Mintfest

Today's the day ................. to perform in the street

The centre of Kendal was full of people today, watching all the street performers taking part in Mintfest. This is Kendal's answer to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and runs from 2nd - 5th September. It's called Mintfest because incredibly there is a River Mint which runs through the town. As far as I know the river does not play any part in the making of Kendal Mint Cake!

The three girls in the picture were all amazing dancers - one performed classical ballet, one did sort of funky jazz dancing and the third was a street hip hopper. There was a wooden bar in the middle - and they all wanted to use it.

They did the Scissors-stone-paper thing, and the ballet dancer won. So she started to dance ......... but it wasn't long before funky jazz butted in and wanted a go, soon followed by hip hop.

Simple idea - beautifully executed and you can see from the faces of the crowd how much they were captivated by it .........
