Berat

Berat was a very lazy city. Or was it that we were very lazy in Berat? Who knows. Anyway we ended up staying there a longer than we anticipated. It was too nice to leave. During the high heat of midday most people's choice was to sit and chill with a beer. At night there were plenty or great reasonable restaurants to go to and most unique; the Giro.

The Giro is a tradition that has hungover from communist times. Between 19:30 and 21:30 most of the inhabitants get dressed up and walk up and down the main street. It is quite a strange social event to take part in. Especially when you haven't showered for three days and your surrounded by a crowd covered with an entire duty-free shop's stock of perfume. Mind you, the water had run out. (Albania has frequent water shortages in summer). So it wasn't my fault. Or was it? See it comes down to who's lazy again. Me? Or the town?
