Giant Hogweed!

Well, a very delicate and small section of this huge plant! These giant hogweeds grow profusely around Baddeck and out here at Big Hill. Apparently, they were introduced to Cape Breton Island by none other than our wonderful Scottish friend, Alexander Graham Bell!!! It seems that they are in fact quite poisonous....and they are huge....right now they are beginning to turn in some places, a beautiful deep dark brown. On my walk this morning, with the sun just on the upper bend .... at around 10.30 am, i found many of them, it was still pretty blustery after our somewhat undramatic experience with hurricane Earl....so it was tricky trying to get a good shot. I love the light in this one and how you can see the delicate flowers on each little startlet ..... when i was recently in Edinburgh i visited to Botanic Gardens and it was so cool to see where this plant originated from!

Our power has been restored, we've had a lovely dinner and now it's time to put my head into my latest book.....the latest John Irvine....'Last Night at Twisted River'....i'm getting very involved!
