It Started Down Under

Medemblik

This is castle Radbout. It is one of the strongest strongholds of the Netherlands during their war with Spain. What is left now is only half the original castle.

We first had our lunch on the dike near the sea. There our lunch was accompanied by music of an accordeon-player on the other side of the city channel.

We did a tour of the castle after we walked around the city center of Medemblik. A tourguide told us great details about the castle and its history. After that we did a tour without guide ourselves. (We couldn't go into the castle before 2pm because a wedding took place there.)

That evening we went into Bergen because there would be a Caribbean Night. However, we only found a big art market around the ruin church. We didn't find any caribbean dancers or music anywhere near the city center.
