Day 3: Auroville

We decided to visit Auroville and the Aurobindo Ashram today. The Aurobindo ashram was really close to our hotel. It was the house in which he lived and died. They had a memorial in the courtyard for him.We also bought some books that he wrote about the Gita and Upanishads as I was always curious to know about them. Reading the Gita and Upanishads directly would be too complicated so it would be nice to know his perspective on them. I was quite inspired and in agreement with hiss belief after reading very short summaries of his and the mothers life back at the hotel. I was looking forward to Auroville.

Auroville extended for several square kilometers and was an amazingly green and well-maintained area. Here people learn and mediate with Sr Aurobindo's theory of human evolution over time. The organization still researches on the cause and this picture is the meditation dome of The Mother.

After a long walk to and back to view thee Golden Dome, we had a sumptuous lunch and did some shopping at the store in Auroville. I tried booking the entry into the dome, but the judgmental and condescending attitude of the lady who attended to my call, caused my faith to shirk a bit. They had indeed become very commercial and it seemed as if not all their staff held the peaceful values that Sri Aurobindo tried to pass on.

Pondicherry is famous for their hand-made products like paper, soaps and incense. I bought as many soaps and incense I could from a wholesaler.

The evening was spent at Auro beach and was again followed by a good dinner.
