Day 2: Drive to the mangroves

We really wanted to visit these vast mangrove forests at Pichavaram located 70 kms south of Pondicherry. We took a regular boat ride through the mangroves which a boat man who only knew Tamil. This seems to be the culture in the state that people refuse to learn the National language Hindi, and treat people from other states with great contempt.

The boat ride was beautiful but there was very less habitation in the salt water mangroves. Since the mangroves are on a backwater, we barely saw some birds around. I had not experienced such eerie silence in my life. The road to Pichvaram was beautiful and we enjoyed the drive.

On the way back we visited Cuddalore beach and then came back for a sumptuous dinner at yet another restaurant in Pondicherry.
