The Edge of the Wold

This really is an emergency blip today. The day was wet and overcast, and there was anyway no escaping the office. Wifie's train was late, which left me precious little time to fit in a walk and possibly a blip.

A quick trip to Leighton Moss, but there were no ducks on the water outside Lillian's hide. I had a quick look at the feeders as I came back to the car park. This little chap was about to raid the feeder. The camera flash gave him a surprise and he wouldn't come any closer after that. Then it was dark and home for tea.

ps This is a grey squirrel. The red squirrels have been gone from Arnside & Silverdale for 15 years or so, and I never saw one at Leighton Moss. We still have them in Cumbria, but their range is shrinking fast. Greys carry the squirrel pox virus, which is fatal to most reds, so they tend not to co-exist in the same area.
